Common Items that Clutter Up Your Home

Every family has different wants and needs when it comes to their home. That is why over at Green Haven Homes we are committed to building homes with those wants and needs in mind. Whether you want a little more room in the kitchen or elsewhere, making space for what you love most is important. And that does not change once you have lived in a home for a while either. If you feel like you do not have enough space and do not know why, it may be time to declutter. We all are guilty of keeping things around “just in case”, but we never end up needing them. Here are a few common items that are guilty of that “just in case” treatment.

Cookbooks

Cookbooks have made successes of many dinner parties through the generations, but if there are ones that you have not cracked open in some time, it may be time to let them go. Afterall, books take up a large portion of space, space you could use for something else. If there are only one or two recipes that you go back to in a particular book, consider scanning those and saving them in a file on your computer instead. Scanning your favorite recipes along with utilizing free online sources like Pinterest will have you all set with delicious dishes to try without any of the clutter.

Boxes

But not just any old boxes, we are talking about product boxes. Those boxes you tend to hang onto long after you open a new tv or laptop. You may initially keep them in case you need to return the item should it not work correctly. Or maybe you hold onto them because they house spare cords and instruction manuals. Regardless of the reasoning, you can surely agree that they take up a fair bit of space. Avoid cluttering up your space with boxes by retrieving the instruction manual and all-important spare parts from the box immediately and storing them in a safe place. And if it has been more than a month and the product is still working how it should, then you can throw the box away with confidence knowing you should not need to return it.

Old Cords and Electronics

Most homes have a junk drawer. A drawer for those miscellaneous items that you do not know exactly where to put away. And oftentimes what you will find in those drawers are old phones and a variety of chargers and cords. This makes sense because on average people get new phones every 32 months. And since every phone and electronic comes with its own cord and charger, you can end up with more than you need. You can declutter this space by weeding out extras of cables you do not need, labeling ones you use scarcely, and donating all other unused items.

The list of things that could be cluttering your home could go on and on. But hopefully this list gave you a place to start.
