Whether you’re getting ready to move or just want to down size, spring and summer is the perfect time to do that. Most of us just accumulate stuff over time and then it sits in our house for years without being used. These space wasters can give you some extra cash though. With the weather turning nice again you can now put up a garage sale. These take time and effort but can be worth your while. Here are some pointers on how to make your garage sale successful.
First, you’re going to want to go through each room in your house with a box in hand and put in there anything that you haven’t used in a while. Don’t be shy about this. Sometimes we can get attached to things that we don’t ever use but have hopes for using it one day. We just need to put it in the box and let it go because chances are we have been saying that for years. As the box fills up you’ll want to have a space dedicated to your garage sale so that you can sort through it.
Once you have gathered all the items you want to sell it’s time to organize and price them. You can categorize them by books, toys, clothes, chargers, and home goods. This will help it to be more appealing and easy for the people coming to look and buy. After you have sorted all your items it’s time to place a price tag on them. This can be super easy with just tape and a marker. Make sure to put a price on everything instead of just in a box with one price. People tend to pick things up and put them back in other places, this will avoid the confusion. Remember too that it’s a garage sale and not Target. Make sure that they are garage sale prices otherwise people won’t buy anything from you.
Finally, it’s time to get everything set up and have your garage sale. It is always best to have everything ready to be set up that morning. Preparing the night before is always advantageous. Be sure you have plenty of cash and change available to give back the needed change. Also, people like it when you sit back and let them browse around, make sure to be friendly but to give them space. This will allow the people to come to you, making them more relaxed.
People never sell everything at a garage sale, at the end of the day don’t just throw it all away. Make sure to make a list of everything with its original price next to it and donate it to Goodwill. This will give you a tax deduction at the end of the year so you’re still saving money. Garage sales are nice because you get rid of all unnecessary things in your home, get money and save money. With the beautiful season here be sure to have a garage sale and make it fun for you and the family. Green Haven Homes know how hard it can be to make a living and have a home. That’s why we donate to an organization that helps house lower income families. We understand that whether you’re needing your dollar to stretch or you just want to get rid of the clutter that this is one way you can do that.
