Ways to Reduce Heat Loss

Green Haven Homes is a new home builder in the Yukon and Oklahoma City area. We are committed to building your dream home exactly how you envision it.

Even though we strive to build our homes with durable and efficient materials, this does not make your home impervious to wasted energy. One of the biggest energy-inefficient culprits draining your pockets is heat loss. It's easy enough to find everyday solutions for reducing heat loss, like closing and opening your curtains, but they must be done consistently. These little things certainly add up, but they're not the most effective way to conserve heat. Long-term changes include structural alterations to your home; while expensive and time-consuming, they are the best way to keep heating bills low. Green Haven Homes considers these factors during the initial construction of your home, so it stays warm and cozy from the start.

Ceiling

Insulating your ceiling is a sure-fire way to reduce heat loss. Much like putting a hat on your head keeps you warm, insulating your ceiling keeps airflow contained to your home. To prevent currents of heat transfer, ceiling insulation must be thorough. Next time it's chilly outside, look to see if your roof has any frosty spots that melted away. This is a sign you're losing heat!

Floor

As above, so below! While newer homes already include insulated flooring, many old homes do not, which leads to major heat loss. If you have wood or tiled floors, a rug not only adds decoration but also prevents heat from escaping. If you're looking to go the extra mile, consider installing heated floors for consistent toastiness underfoot.

Doors and Windows

Doors and windows are some of the biggest portals for heat loss. Luckily, they're also the easiest fixes. Check your frames for cracked caulk, this can lead to heat loss throughout your home. Updating the caulking is an easy fix and supplies can be found at your local hardware store.

Green Haven Homes already considers these factors to ensure your home is as energy-efficient as possible. If you are ready to start your home buying search, start here.
