Items Everyone Should Have in Their Home

There are a lot of things in life that you do not need. But there are also things that just make your life easier. A coffee maker, reminders on your phone, and a dishwasher, just to name a few. In the whirlwind that is buying a new home and all that comes with it, you may not have had time to think of small practical things that may be nice to have around the house. That is why Green Haven Homes has thought of some things for you. Here is a list of new home items that are bound to make your life easier.

Tools

Odds are you have a hand full of tools already, but homeownership may require a few more. Or at least having a few specific tools around may make jobs easier. For example, a pry bar is handy to have around for removing nails and prying away drywall, tile, and trim. Ratchet sets can help you tighten or loosen any bolt in your new home. And when you are working in a tight corner, ratchets really shine. A stud finder is another useful tool that may not come across your mind frequently. But now that you can hang as many shelves and pictures as you want and mount that tv just where you like, a stud finder will help you make holes that count and find the right place to securely anchor your things.

Emergency Prep Kit

Knowing which disasters are most common in the area you live and being prepared for them is wise. Keep a “go bag” full of at least 72 hours’ worth of survival items for everyone in your home, including your pets. FEMA has a thorough list of items that you should consider putting in your kit including cash, food, medication, and more.

Headlamp

Being a homeowner means investigating and fixing a lot of things yourself. When there is a weird noise behind the water heater or the sink is leaking, fixing the problem will likely require both hands. And since there are many areas you end up working in that do not have a lot of light to help you, having a hands-free headlamp can make a world of difference.

Ladder

Your home probably has more square footage than your last rental, and maybe even more ceiling height. Hanging pictures and curtains can be a pain, but not so much if you have a ladder! Ladders are also useful for inspecting and cleaning your gutters as well as your roof. Changing a lightbulb may even sometimes require a ladder in a home. Whatever the task, a ladder is always good to have around.

Fire Extinguisher

Accidents happen. And while you may not have thought about it much because most apartments have to have fire extinguishers on hand, your new home may not have one. Kitchen fires are extremely common, and it is all too easy to forget to turn off your curling iron before you leave the room. So, just for peace of mind, have a fire extinguisher around. It is also worth noting that there are different types of fire extinguishers, such as for oils or wood. So, research which type makes the most sense for your home.

Green Haven Homes would like to congratulate you on your new home! Or if you are still on the hunt for the right fit, why not give us call? Maybe a custom experience is what you have been waiting for.
